GEARING UP FOR SAFETY

Agriculture is a unique industry in that it employs thousands of youth in hazardous tasks on the farm.   Tragically, hundreds of these people under the age of 18 die in farm work-related incidents each year.  Nearly all of these deaths are avoidable.  Most could be prevented by some basic operator training.  Farm tractors are involved with more than 1/2 of these fatal injuries. Under the Fair Labor Standards Act, youth ages 14 and 15 must complete an approved course in tractor and machinery safety and operation before they may be hired to perform many of those jobs declared hazardous. This web site is designed to present one unit of the that approved course.  This unit deals only with tractor safety and topics directly related to tractor safety.  You should be able to complete the unit in about one hour.   Select the topics on the left side of this screen in any order.  It is important that you complete all of the topics in the unit.

Safety First!!!
