More farm operators and their family members are killed as a result of tractor overturns than by any other type of mishap on the farm. All overturns are caused when the tractor’s center of gravity shifts to a point outside of its stability zone. The center of gravity is the point of equal weight distribution. This means there is exactly the same weight to the front and behind that point. There is also exactly the same weight on each side of that point. Finally, there is the same weight above and below that point.
These drawings show that the tractor will overturn as soon as the Center of Gravity shifts past the tire.
