Shake & Bake
Supplies
- 4 cups flour
- 4 cups crackermeal, or ground inexpensive crackers
- 4 tablespoons salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 3 tablespoons paprika
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients. Mix well.
- Store in a tightly covered container.
- Keep in a cool, dry place for up to six months.
- Refrigerate or freeze for longer storage.
Homemade
Corn Bread Mix
Supplies
- 1 cup yellow corn meal
- 1 cup flour
- 1/4 cup sugar (optional)
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients. Mix well.
- Store in a plastic bag or tightly covered container at
room temperature.
- May store at room temperature for up to six months.
Instructions for Corn Bread
- Pour mix into a large size bowl.
- Add 1 egg, 1 cup of milk, and 4 tablespoons of softened
shortening.
- Beat for 1 minute or until smooth.
- Pour into a greased 8x8x2 inch baking pan.
- Bake at 425°F for 20 to 25 minutes.
- Check to see if it is done by inserting a knife into
the center. If the knife comes out clean, it is done.
Homemade
Taco Seasoning Mix
Supplies
- 6 teaspoons chili powder
- 5 teaspoons paprika
- 4 1/2 teaspoons cumin
- 3 teaspoons onion powder
- 2 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients. Mix well.
- Place in a storage container with a tight fitting lid.
Seal well.
- Store in a cool, dry place for up to six months.
- Makes 21 teaspoons. Approximately 7 teaspoons of the
mix equal a 1.25-ounce package of purchased taco seasoning mix.

Poultry Seasoning Mix
Supplies
- 1 tablespoon dried rosemary
- 1 tablespoon dried sage
- 1 tablespoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon celery seed
- 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
- 1 tablespoon dried marjoram
- 3/4 teaspoon ground pepper
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients. Mix well.
- Place in a storage container with a tight fitting lid.
Seal well.
- To use: Rub over poultry before cooking or grilling.

Onion Soup Mix
Supplies
- 3/4 cup instant minced onion
- 1/3 cup beef-flavor instant bouillon
- 4 teaspoons onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon celery seed, crushed
- 1/4 teaspoon sugar
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients. Mix well.
- Place in a storage container with a tight-fitting lid.
Seal tightly.
- Store in a cool, dry place for up to six months.
- Stir or shake well before each use.
- Makes 18 tablespoons. Approximately 5 tablespoons equal
a 1.25-ounce package of puchased dry onion soup mix.
