in 2002 (newsletters, recognition certificates, banners, etc.).
- Work with various state agencies to have a 4-H Centennial logo placed on
programs, souvenir glasses, etc.
- Create 4-H history programs to be used as camp activities.
- Collect and Display past 4-H photographs.
- Create a large “4-H Indiana Quilt” with each county contributing a square.
- Contribute a quilt block to the national 4-H quilt being made by a 4-H’er
in Missouri.
- Have cartoonist Jim Davis do a “Garfield” comic strip that mentions 4-H.
- Have a plane carry a 4-H banner at air shows and other outdoor events.
- Create a state 4-H time capsule.
State Awareness Event Ideas:
- Have all school students in Indiana do something to honor 4-H on the same
day.
- Host a fireworks display at the state fair.
- Plant a 4-H tree (Tulip) on the state fairgrounds/state house along with
a marker to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of 4-H.
- Hold a 4-H Alumni Day at the State Fair. (This could also be used as a
way to keep better track of alumni.)
- Birthday party kick-off first at state (state house) and then spread out
to county for county birthday parties. Include oldest living 4-H alumni.
- Have a celebrity day in which “famous” 4-H alumni hold a meeting/brown box
session to talk with current 4-H members.
- Get people who have been in 4-H promote 4-H at concerts at IN State Fair
entertainment shows.
- Hold “WANTED 4-H Alumni” contest. Give rewards for categories such as:
- oldest living alumni
- highest number of recognized alumni in county
- oldest 4-H books, pins, ribbons,
etc. found
- Have a reunion at Indiana State Fair
- Have alumni party and recognition
- Include displays and have youth-centered games and activities
