ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS

An Update from The Indiana 4-H Foundation
We’re looking for a few good men…and women!...as potential Board of Directors nominees for the Foundation. Do you know a community leader who is passionate about 4-H, understands the importance of resource development and fundraising and might be willing to share their time, talents and treasure in support of 4-H? This person may be just who we are looking for to serve on the Foundation Board. For more information about the expectations of Board members or to share the name(s) of individuals who come to mind, please contact Governance Chair Dorinda Lawson, 800.937.2325 or dlawson@beckshybrids.com. Board members serve a three-year term and will be elected at the 2008 Annual Meeting.

Congratulations Elkhart County, 2007 recipient of the Foundation’s annual Perfect Partnership Award, presented October 16 at the Extension Annual Conference. This award recognizes a county whose Extension staff has worked in partnership with the Foundation in its mission to develop financial resources to support and enhance the Indiana 4-H Program. Elkhart County was selected because of their tremendous partnership in the planning and execution of our successful tribute and fundraising event honoring Robert M. “Doc” Abel on September 30 as well as their leadership in 4-H license plate sales.  Special thanks to Laurie Sula and Beth Yoder for their personal involvement in the coordination of this event.

Kudos to the winners of the 4-H Successful Program Awards announced at the Annual Extension Conference:
o   Kathleen Koch, Hamilton County – SNAP: Battle of the Bands at Verizon Wireless
o   Sheryl Rosenberger, Fountain County – Fountain County Public Speaking Guide
o   Maryanne Denisi, St Joseph County – 4-H Day River Clean Up
o   Heather Millett, Decatur County – Area 1 4-H/FFA Livestock Judging Workshop

Operation: Military Kids
National Guard Youth Deployment Briefings
Thanks to each of you and your volunteers who responded to the call for assistance with the National Guard Youth Deployment Briefings that were held around the state in September and October. I know that you had very short notice to organize a team of volunteers, but really appreciate all of your efforts to support our military partners and their children.

If you were able to participate, please share a paragraph or two about your experiences along with the numbers of youth who attended the briefings so we can include them in our next OMK report. Thanks again!

OMK Activities to Assist
Twenty-five “OMK Activities to Assist” kits have been distributed to support OMK activities led for youth from military families. These kits contain a number of lesson plans and some of the supplies needed to lead these lessons with the children. These kits have been distributed to District Offices and State OMK Team members around the state so that they can be accessed more easily.
