Indians to Host 4-H Event
There is a 4-H Night
scheduled at Victory Field during the Indians’ upcoming season. The event
is scheduled for Saturday, August 25th at 7:00 in the evening when
the Indians play the Toledo Mud Hens. That evening, the Indians will host
a special performance by the wildly popular ZOOperstars (visit their website for more information:
http://www.zooperstars.com/main.asp).
Tickets for the Indians game are offered at the discounted rate of $11 for box seats and $9 for reserved or lawn seats. In order to receive the discount, the tickets must be ordered in advance.
Rowdy, the Indians’ mascot, will be making a special appearance at the 4-H Complex during the Indiana State Fair. Watch the CCC for more information about meeting Rowdy.

Fall
Workshop:
September 7-9, 2007. Registration deadline is two weeks before the
workshop begins. You can get the registration form and IDNR health form from
the 4-H Shooting Sports leader webpage (www.four-h.purdue.edu/shooting_sports/).
See Indiana Certification Workshop for the registration and health forms
and a link to the IHEA website. Or, you can go to the Indiana Hunter Education
Association (IHEA) website (http://www.inhea.com/).
An agenda for the weekend is available at the IHEA website (to help attendees
plan).
Reminders –
The Shooting Sports Coordinator training is offered in the fall only. We must have at least five participants to hold the class.
The
hunting discipline introduces a wide variety of topics and is recommended,
particularly for the younger 4-H members. It is a great way of introducing youth to the outdoors and
the wildlife that we enjoy in
Purdue policy states that any 4-H shooting sports education leader must have successfully completed a certification workshop, in addition to the usual county volunteer leader screening.

Funding
Available for OMK County-Sponsored Events
The 2006-2007
OMK grant cycle is drawing to a close. However, funds are still available
in support of county-sponsored OMK events. Many counties have used these funds
to support a local Hero Pack project or to partner with a local military unit
to organize a fun event for the military families and their children. Funds
for the current grant need to be expended by early September, 2007. If you
would like to access some of these funds, please see the information form
available from the link below or contact me ASAP!

The keynote speaker for 4-H Congress is Laurie Stewart, a member of the National Speakers Association, and “an upbeat and informative motivational speaker who brings warmth, involvement, and a high quality speech to each audience.” Laurie will lead interactive sessions with the 4-H members throughout the day. The title of her presentation is: “Attitude Check: Being Real, Being Respectful, Being You!” To learn more about Laurie’s presentations, please visit her Web site: http://www.lastewart.com/about.htm.
4-H Adult Congress, for any adult who works with 4-H members, including staff and volunteers, will feature 3 seminars focused on the topic of Communication. Lessons from these seminars can be led with youth audiences such as Jr. Leaders, Officers, and other members with leadership responsibilities in the adults’ home communities. Seminar presenters will include State 4-H Junior Leader Council members, YDAE Graduate Assistants, and Extension Educators.
Both the Youth and Adult Congress participants will recognize 4-H Accomplishment Scholarship winners during a formal banquet lunch. Youth and Adult Congress participants will also join together for the closing session to review the day’s activities and develop a plan of action to use the materials back home. The attached flyers include a schedule of the day’s events for each group.
Thank you for helping to promote this event to your 4-H Members and Adult 4-H Volunteers.
