In 2002, two events conducted by CARe focused on increasing male involvement in sexual violence prevention. A work plan was developed to recruit and include males in rape and sexual assault prevention education including racial and ethnic minority groups of males. The 2002 Multicultural Gathering focused on reframing "machismo" for males in the Latino community. A survey conducted following up on the information presented in the "Machsimo" training indicated a willingness and a desire to have an ongoing dialogue regarding Latino males and sexual violence prevention. A male outreach volunteer has assisted in the minority and youth outreach components.
Astatewide symposium on getting males involved in the sexual assault prevention program was held in 2003. A Special Projects Coordinator to focus exclusively on the issue of male involvement by developing a separate componet for boys and men was hired in 2004.
On September 22, 2005 a Male Involvement Conference entitled "Grass Roots and Organizational Space" was held at Adam's Mark in Indianapolis. Robert Franklin from the Virginia Department of Public Health was the keynote speaker. The "What Can Men Do to End Sexual Violence" brochure was introduced for the first time. Also a learning tool the male involvement flexagon was also presented. For more information on both of these contact care@four-h.purdue.edu
