The 4-H Adult and Family Exchange Program
Most Travelers Explore Japan as Tourists –
Adults and families have the opportunity to visit Japan as the guests of a local family through a program sponsored by Cooperative Extension 4-H Youth Development. Their unique visit will include homestays as well as touring and sightseeing with other 4-H exchange participants from many parts of the United States, and of course the opportunity to explore Japan on their own.
The Program
A variety of programs are designed each year for adults of all ages and families to travel together and explore Japan and its unique culture.
Programs are usually held in the spring and fall, but the timing does vary from year to year. The official program usually runs from 10 days to two weeks in length. Many participants extend their time in Japan for some exploring and touring on their own.
The host families are members of educational exchange organizations in Japan and are very enthusiastic about welcoming 4-H exchange particpants into their homes.
The Cost
An all-inclusive program fee includes round-trip airfare to Japan (including flights from your home to a gateway city in the United States), in-Japan costs, and medical insurance coverage. The fee varies from year to year and from program to program.
NOTE: Opportunities also exist to travel to Korea on a similar program.
